Emotion-Focused/Family Therapy (EFT/EFFT)

Video

I chose to share about Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and a bit about Emotion-Focused Family Therapy(EFFT) which is my primary theory and approach.  I use a lot of teachings in EFFT from Dr. Adele Lafrance and Natasha Files and both of them are involved in using EFFT/EFT within the PAT realm.  Adele and Dr. Reid Robison have had trials combining EFT with Ketamine (EF-KAP) to treat anorexia and have investigated using EF-KAP to treat depression.  The publication for their work is in process, not yet submitted.  (https://www.cedarpsychiatry.com/efkap) <— has the below list of pdf handouts for clinicians for all stages of PAT:

Pre-Flight Instructions for Clients

Intention Setting for Clients

Emotion Basics Handout

Personalized Integration Plan

Process of Emotion Self-Exploration

Supporting Your Loved Ones Throughout Treatment

I love EFFT and it is something I truly enjoy sharing with parents/caregivers, and there are other parts of it that crossover into individual therapy as well.  As PAT expands and potentially is applied to treatment for adolescents/young adults, I could see EFFT being helpful.

This book is a helpful one to learn about EFT:  Elliott, R., Watson, J. C., Goldman, R. N., & Greenberg, L. S. (2004). Learning Emotion-Focused Therapy: The Process-Experiential Approach to Change. American Psychological Association.

I have also attached the EFT reference list I used in my qualifying exam for grad school that has many articles to read for those interested (hasn't been updated since 2018, so doesn't have current/newer articles but foundational ones).

I am open to questions or any other discussions!
